Where Families Grow...

Birth Assistants

Brianna Curtis

Birth Assistant and Receptionist

I'm Brianna and am the birth assistant and receptionist for Cascade Birth Center. I have worked part time here since graduating high school in 2006. I traveled around for a year or so, but my desire to be a midwife and attend the Seattle Midwifery School brought me back home.

I was lucky enough to bring my baby Kylie to work with me and slip right back into my work at the birth center.  My role at the birth center is to answer phones, direct your call to the right person or midwife, help with scheduling, and cleaning after births. I am also Darlene's daughter and like her, I have a love for birth that goes as far back as I can remember.  I have always loved hearing stories of amazing women birthing their babies and I definitely caught the bug!

Because I also want to be a midwife, I am a doula and act as a birthing assistant.  I will continue to work on a part time basis while I attend college and reach my final goal of being a licensed midwife, and become much more involved in this wonderful birth center.

Ana Ross, R.N.

Birth Assistant, Staff Supervisor

My name is Ana Ross and I am proud to be the recent addition to the family of birthing professionals at Cascade Midwives and Birth Center. I graduated with honors from Sonoma State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing.

During my final year of nursing school I decided I wanted to explore my passion for caring for newborns. I earned the opportunity to work with a wonderful nurse preceptor at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, CA ; where I worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, attended high-risk births, and also had the opportunity to work in the Post Partum Care Unit in addition to the Well Baby Nursery. During this time I was invited to join Sigma Theta Tau International, the Honor Society of Nursing, of which I am still a member.

In 2008 I moved to Washington with my husband who was born and raised in the Everett area. I accepted a job at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle working on an Inpatient Surgical Unit where I was fortunate to experience a wide variety of patient care, but it didn’t compare to my experience with newborns.

When I became pregnant with my first child I knew that I wanted my birth to be a loving and natural experience. After doing personal research on the subject of home births and Midwifery care, which included visiting and speaking with numerous midwives, doctors and nurses, I decided that Cascade Midwives and Birth Center was the best fit for me. The instant rapport and connection I felt with Darlene along with a strong belief in her experience and ability to provide exceptional and safe midwifery care made me confident in my decision.

My entire experience from prenatal care right up to my actual birth was exactly what I had hoped for. The connection I felt with the women there made a profound and positive impact on the birth of my daughter, Emma. I cherish my experience at the birth center and kno w that I want to help other women experience the same loving and magical birth that I believe every woman should experience when bringing a child into the world. Needless to say, when I was offered a position at the Birth Center I was happy to accept. Since then I have assisted in many births, each one unique and special in their own way, and I am truly grateful to have been able to take part in what I believe is the most amazing experience anyone can take part in. Every time I have been present to see a new mother look into the eyes of her child for the first time I feel blessed to have found a home as part of the family at Cascade Midwives and Birth Center.
